Please join Her Excellency Ms. Ann Linde, the newly appointed Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs, for a conversation on feminist foreign policy and what it means in the world today.

Ms. Leymah Gbowee, 2011 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and Executive Director of Columbia's Women, Peace and Security program, will offer opening remarks. 

The conversation will be moderated by Dr. Yasmine Ergas, Director of the Specialization on Gender and Public Policy at SIPA.

In 2014, Sweden became the first country in the world to publicly adopt a "feminist foreign policy," placing gender equality at the forefront of its diplomatic agenda. In September 2019, Sweden named a new foreign minister, appointing former trade minister H.E. Ms. Ann Linde – who has vowed to continue the country's landmark policy, which includes the promotion of women's economic emancipation, fighting sexual violence and improving women's political participation.

 

This event is co-hosted by Columbia University's Women, Peace and Security program, the Earth Institute, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, and the Gender and Public Policy Specialization at SIPA. It is part of the Perspectives on Peace Series.

The Perspectives on Peace series is organized with support from partners at the Columbia University Master’s Program in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution at the School of Professional Studies, and the Morton Deutsch International Center on Cooperation and Conflict Resolution at Columbia’s Teachers College.

 

The event will begin at 5 PM, with a reception to follow, beginning at 6 PM. It is open and free to the public.
